High School School Forest
Pittsville School Forest
The Pittsville School District owns land near Babcock to use for students. It is a great location to learn about local wildlife, ecosystems, sustainability, and nature in general. Students from Kindergarten to high school take field trips to the location throughout the year. Please see the post below from the opening of this resource when the district developed the property.
Historic Shelter Opens
At the Pittsville School Forest, memories are being made that will last a lifetime. Stephen Hadfield, a shop teacher at Pittsville High school was the director of operations for the shelter. He says 60% of the shelter was made using wood that came from the school forest itself. For Senior Joey Arendt, this will be an everlasting memory. He says, “It’s really great that we can come out and help the community by having a place for the kids to come out to during the school year.” The shelter took about two years to complete. The roofing was completed this past summer, and this spring the shelter is officially open for the school.
