New Math Teacher Hired for 2014-15 School Year
The School Board approved the hiring of Tara Grossman as Math Instructor for the District. Ms. Grossman will replace Shane Lilly who resigned earlier in the year to move with his family to the Milwaukee area. Ms. Grossman, who currently teaches in the Auburndale School District, will begin her teaching duties for the Pittsville in August.
Elementary Gym/Cafeteria Update
The Pittsville School Board learned that a structural engineer from the District's insurance provider was to inspect the gym supports on Monday, March 17, to provide the insurance carrier a recommendation to proceed with repairs the the cracked support beams. The District has secured a repair estimate of approximately $18,500. The District has a $1,000 deductible insurance policy. The gym has been closed since February 20, and will remain closed until the completion of the beam repairs. Lunch and breakfast at the elementary are now being served in the multipurpose room until the gym is opened.
District Investigates Providing Day Care at School
District Administrator, Terry Reynolds is investigating the feasibility of providing Day Care within the the Elementary School. Reynolds brought forth the concept to the School Board indicating that a few area Districts have successfully implemented such services to their employees and community residents. The programs have been able to sustain these programs at no extra cost to the District. The School Board agreed the concept was worth further investigation.
The School Board again approved the hiring of a co-assistant baseball coach for 2014. There is no extra-cost to the district as the two assistant coaches share one base salary. By having two assistants one of the assistants can travel to JV games while the other assistant can remain with the Head coach to assist with the varsity team. The position has been posted and applications are being reviewed.
School Board Advisory Committee Update :
The School Board Advisory Committee will be holding their first meeting on Monday, March 24, in the School Board Meeting Room, beginning at 6:00 p.m.. The committee is charged with looking at short and long term financial and facility needs of the District.
