1:1 Technology for all 7-12 Students in 2013-14:
All 7-12 Pittsville Students will be issued Samsung Chromebooks as part of their educational learning program this coming fall. The Chromebooks will be purchased this Spring using the 2012-13 and 2013-14 technology budget allocations. The 1:1 technology program will become fully implemented in September after all new policies and procedures are finalized.
2014-15 School Calendar approved:
The School Board approved the 2014-15 School Calendar at their May 13, meeting.
Satellite Education Program (SEP) in China approved by School Board:
The Pittsville School Board approved the participation in the SEP program at their May 1 meeting. The new program will involve the Pittsville School Distrct and the Mercer School District partnering with each other. The two districts are currently involved with discussions with an agency in China called the Satellite Education Program (SEP). A possible agreement /partnership is being investigated which would provide Pittsville and Mercer curriculums to be taught to Chinese Students in China. Students in grades 10-12 in those host shools would take courses which would lead to earning credits toward a High School Diploma from either Mercer or Pittsville. Pittsville teachers and students would have an opportunity to teach and attend school in China through the program as well. For these services in China, a substantial donation coming back to Mercer and Pittsville Districts would be a part of the agreement. Details are being worked out, and arrangements for Chinese Officials to come to Wisconsin is in the works. Possible teacher candidates to teach in China arebeing recruited at this time (a total of approximately 60 will be needed), as the SEP would like to initiate the program for the 2013-14 school year.
School Board approves contract with Dashir:
The Pittsville School Board approved a three year contract with Dashir Complete Facility Management Company, based out of Reedsburg, WI, to provide building and grounds management services beginning in July. Dashir will be advertising in local papers to hire a new Building and Grounds Supervisor who will be replacing current District employee Dick Koeshall, who is retiring in June.
New Policies Introduced:
Three new policies had their first reading at the May 13, School Board Meeting: 523.5 Employee Wellness, 524 Gifts and Gratuities, and 525 Staff Solicitations.
Future District Facility/Equipment Needs:
The Pittsville School Board discussed future facility/equipment needs. District Administrator, Terry Reynolds developed a list of future needs that should be discussed and considered. The District will have it's final debt payment for the 2000 construction project in the Spring of 2014. When the debt payment is finished, the District will lose a considerable amount of state aids, and a plan needs to be developed to try to keep this loss of revenue to a minimum.
