Pittsville High School & Elementary School
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
We are making a few changes in this year’s breakfast program in an attempt to make breakfast or a nutrition break available to more students. A breakfast or nutrition break will be offered at the Elementary and High School between first and second hour. Students will have the opportunity to go to the cafeteria to pick up morning break items then return to the classroom to enjoy the food. Items offered will always consist of milk, fruit, juice, and a food item that meets the breakfast requirements set down by the USDA.
We are still following the government breakfast guidelines so we can offer this nutrition break for only 60 cents. The charge for the break will come out of your family’s existing food service account. If your family qualifies for free or reduced school lunch there will be no charge for the morning break.
Since this break is offered early in the day the Elementary school we will not be serving breakfast at 7:30 as in the past. However the High School we will be serving a breakfast / nutrition break at 7:30 and another nutrition break between first and second hour. A letter will be sent to all families with High School students explaining the details.
Please remember to fill out and return your free or reduced meal applications as soon as possible. Family’s that qualified for free or reduced school lunch last year will need to reapply this year or may be dropped from the program in October. As always if your financial situation changes or family size increases free or reduced meal application can be submitted anytime during the school year.
Thank you for helping us to make sure that all of our students start the school day alert, well fed, and ready to learn.
Sincerely,
Director of Food Service
